2023. A beautiful terraced house in Islington lacked a generous family room and the lower ground floor was poorly configured and under-used. Built Narratives proposed a completely new layout; providing a generous family room, with kitchen, dining and living space for the whole family, a large utility room / pantry and a guest bedroom suite. The project is a testament to the value of generous floor-to-ceiling height. The client opted to underpin the flank walls of the building, digging approximately 1m down. This extra space allows a 2.7m ceiling height on the lower ground floor transforming the back of the house and its relationship with the garden. Rich, deep green tiles, vertically stacked provide a nod to the garden's greenery and a modesty to the large space behind. Construction was completed in  December 2024, just in time for the family to enjoy Christmas.
